Cancer risk factors are things that may put you at higher risk for having cancer. Kidney cancer risk factors may include:
- Smoking: people who smoke tobacco-especially those who have smoked for a long time-have a higher risk for kidney cancer than those who do not smoke
- Being obese: people who are obese have a higher risk for kidney cancer than those who are not obese
- High blood pressure: having high blood pressure increases the risk for kidney cancer
- Having a family member who has had kidney cancer: a family history of kidney cancer and certain other health problems that run in the family can increase your own risk for having kidney cancer
Be sure to talk with your healthcare provider about your risk factors for kidney cancer.
